In 2023, archaeologists unearthed one of these figures with a smile and two dimples that may represent Emperor Claudius. A king of a dynasty with foreign origins re-inscribed seven granite examples of these figures that have unusually prominent cheekbones. A 90-ton one of these figures made from calcite alabaster was unearthed by an archaeologist who also brought a 15-ton red granite one of them to the Penn Museum. After falling (*) asleep at the base of one of these figures, one ruler erected the Dream Stele between its feet. Rows of these figures, including their ram’s-headed “crios-” variant, flank an “Avenue” named for them that connects Luxor and (10[1])Karnak.
