Round 9: Tossup 17

According to one account, this artwork was commissioned to replace a Madonna of the Large Eyes icon that had helped its city win a violent battle. A gigantic Jesus stands on a mountain and rebukes a black, winged devil in a section of this artwork housed at the Frick. A section of this artwork features four local saints named Sabinus, Ansanus, Crescentius, and Victor kneeling. When this artwork was dismantled in 1771, its backside lost (15[1])some of its twenty-six depictions of the Passion of Christ set under a golden sky. This artwork’s main front panel shows (*) thirty-nine angels and saints surrounding Mary, who holds the baby Jesus on her lap.
