This property is conferred via cooling and light irradiation during LIESST. Exciting a triplet state produces “light-harvesting” molecules with this property such as Ru(bpy)3 (“ru-bippy”), inducing an MLCT transition due to intersystem crossing. Unlike Orgel diagrams, spectra of complexes with this property can be predicted using the right (-5[1])half of a (-5[1])Tanabe-Sugano (-5[1])diagram. This property is characterized by a large energy split between (10[1])(*) t-sub-2g and e-sub-g orbitals, caused by ligands high in the spectrochemical series known as “strong field.” Octahedral complexes with low pairing energy have this property, and do not maximize multiplicity according to Hund’s rule.
